StemWave
Shockwave Therapy

Chronic tendon pain and soft-tissue injuries that haven’t responded to rest, injections, or standard care often need a different kind of stimulus. StemWave delivers focused acoustic waves that trigger your body’s own healing cascade — no needles, no surgery, no downtime.

Acoustic-Wave Technology

What Is StemWave Therapy?

StemWave uses high-energy acoustic waves — the same physics as medical lithotripsy, refined and focused for soft-tissue treatment. The waves pass through skin without any incision, reaching tendons, ligaments, and calcified deposits at therapeutic depth.

At the target tissue, two things happen: calcific deposits and fibrotic adhesions are mechanically disrupted, and a controlled micro-inflammatory response is triggered. That second mechanism is the key. Chronic tendinopathy persists because the tissue has stopped trying to heal — it has adapted to a state of low-grade dysfunction. StemWave restarts the healing cascade by recruiting growth factors, increasing local blood flow, and stimulating collagen synthesis precisely where it is needed.

Sessions run 15–30 minutes. You leave the clinic the same day and return to normal activity almost immediately. No anesthesia, no injections, no prescription required.

What to Expect

Your StemWave Session, Step by Step

Every StemWave session at Elev8 is one-on-one with Dr. Ken — not a tech, not a medical assistant. Here is exactly what happens from the time you arrive.

01

Evaluation

Dr. Ken confirms the target tissue and maps the treatment zone. For new patients, this includes a brief functional assessment so treatment is directed at the right structure.

02

Positioning

You sit or lie in a comfortable position exposing the treatment area. No special prep — just wear clothing that allows access to the site being treated.

03

Acoustic-Wave Delivery

The StemWave handpiece is applied with coupling gel. You feel a rhythmic pulsing — Dr. Ken works across the tissue and adjusts the intensity in real time based on your feedback.

04

Post-Session Check

Dr. Ken reassesses mobility and tenderness after treatment, notes your response, and sets clear expectations for the 24-48 hours that follow.

05

Walk Out the Door

No recovery period. Most patients drive themselves home. Avoid intense training on the treated area for 24 hours; normal daily activity is fine immediately.

Is StemWave Right for Me?

For Patients Who’ve Tried Everything

StemWave is not the first line of treatment — it is the right call when you have been managing pain for months and have not turned the corner.

You have a chronic tendon problem

If you've had plantar fasciitis, tennis elbow, Achilles pain, or a similar tendon injury for more than 3 months and haven't turned the corner, the tissue may have stalled. StemWave restarts the healing process by providing the stimulus chronic tissue has stopped responding to.

You want to avoid surgery or repeated injections

Cortisone can mask pain but doesn't rebuild tissue — and repeated injections can weaken tendons over time. StemWave works with your body's biology rather than suppressing it. For many patients it is the last conservative step before a surgical consultation.

You can't afford downtime

Athletes, parents, and working professionals who need to stay active are ideal StemWave candidates. Sessions are 15-30 minutes. There is no post-treatment immobilization, no cast, and no time off required.

You've already tried the basics

Rest, ice, NSAIDs, stretching, and standard physical therapy are often the right starting point. StemWave is appropriate when those tools have plateaued and the tissue is still not right. It adds a mechanical stimulus that conservative care alone cannot provide.

FAQ

StemWave Questions, Answered

Does StemWave shockwave therapy hurt?

Most patients feel a rhythmic pulsing or tapping sensation during treatment — mildly uncomfortable in the area being treated, not sharp pain. Dr. Ken adjusts intensity to your tolerance throughout the session. Any discomfort stops the moment the handpiece is lifted.

How many sessions will I need?

Most chronic tendon conditions respond well to 3-6 sessions spaced one week apart. Dr. Ken evaluates your response after each session and adjusts the plan accordingly. Acute presentations may resolve faster; long-standing conditions may benefit from a few additional sessions.

How soon will I feel results?

Some patients notice reduced pain within 24-72 hours of their first session. For chronic injuries, the most significant gains typically come after sessions 2-4 as the healing response builds. Tissue remodeling continues for 6-12 weeks after your final treatment.

Is StemWave covered by insurance?

Elev8 is a cash-pay practice. StemWave sessions are self-pay. Cash, Credit, FSA, and HSA are accepted. This keeps care direct and transparent — no prior authorization, no insurance limits on how your treatment progresses.

Can I combine StemWave with other physical therapy?

Yes — and at Elev8, that is often the plan. Dr. Ken pairs StemWave with manual therapy, targeted exercise progressions, and movement correction as part of a complete program. StemWave addresses tissue quality; physical therapy rebuilds load tolerance and correct movement patterns.
